Latin American film manufacturer embraces future-proof IMC technology, powerful direct drives and the latest LIWEB system

Modernization of BOPP line boosts film quality and production reliability

The challenge: Outdated technology, rising downtime risk
At a production site in Latin America, where reliability is key to staying competitive in the film manufacturing industry, one of the BOPP lines was increasingly showing its age. Critical electronic components had become obsolete, and spare parts were no longer available — raising the risk of unplanned downtime with each passing day. A sustainable, future-proof solution was urgently needed.

The solution: high-tech upgrade for long-term performance
Building on the success of a previous project on a sister line, the Latin American film manufacturer once again partnered with Brückner Servtec for a comprehensive modernization. The upgrade focused on three key areas:

First, the outdated drive system was replaced with state-of-the-art direct drives at the chill roll and MDO (machine direction orientation), resulting in improved film quality through higher precision, lower energy consumption, as well as increased line availability due to reduced maintenance requirements.

Second, a new IMC (Integrated Machine Control) system was installed, enabling faster troubleshooting — including remote diagnostics — while improving usability and overall operational efficiency of the film stretching line.

And finally, the project scope also included the installation of Brückner’s well-proven linear web (LIWEB) system at the TDO (transverse direction orienter). It has significantly simplified the film threading process and enables precise control of film gripping and positioning during ramp-up and start-up phases.

The result: Future-proof production and a bonded partnership
Despite extreme heat on site and a tight frame for commissioning, which was met within just three weeks, the project was successfully completed, leaving the three-layer BOPP line well equipped for the coming years. The collaboration between the customer and Brückner Servtec as always been marked by trust, transparency, and a shared commitment to success — as reflected in the opinions of people involved:

“From day one, our partnership was built on mutual respect and professionalism. Even under challenging conditions, we achieved our goals together — driven by strong teamwork and a clear focus.”Erik Herold & Gerald Huber, Project Managers, Brückner Servtec.

The successful modernization of the BOPP line highlights the impact of future-proof technology on long-term reliability, quality, and sustainability. We would like to express our appreciation for the continued trust in Brückner Servtec’s services, with our partnership grounded in shared goals and proven results.
