Functional layers in a single process step, shorter lead times and consistently high film quality
For more than three decades, the Hubei Firsta Material Science and Technology Group has produced high-quality BOPP packaging films and functional PET/BOPP films on two Brückner lines in Chengguan Yunmeng, China. As one of these lines slowly reached the end of its technological lifecycle, Firsta set out to future-proof the asset and broaden its product portfolio. With Brückner Servtec as its partner, a comprehensive modernization project was undertaken.
First retrofitted BOPP inline coater in China
At the heart of the modernization was the retrofit of an Inline Coater (ILC), marking the first retrofit on an existing Brückner line in China – a milestone achieved together.
By bringing coating into the line, Firsta now produces high-valued coated films in a single process step with fewer material handovers and faster changeovers. The improved process stability and layer precision translate into consistently high film quality and open up new market niches.
Latest technology for maximum production flexibility
The upgrade was complemented by electrical modernizations as part of a new Integrated Machine Control (IMC), new direct drives for the chill roll and MDO, and a skim tank for the chill-roll water bath. Together, these measures renewed the line’s automation by enabling precise control of all production parameters.
With the inline coater and the IMC upgrade, our line has become a flexible platform for functional films. We’ve shortened process chains, improved film consistency, and gained the freedom to address new product requirements – all while keeping the existing equipment running efficiently
With the successful IMC, Hubei Firsta has not only significantly extended the service life of the plant but has also opened up additional new market opportunities through the ILC. This is a strong example of how Brückner Servtec is shaping the future together with its customers.
